2017 Meeting Information

THE NEXT MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE FRIDAY NOVEMBER 10, 2017  AT THE MIDDLE ISLAND F.D.  THIS IS A CHANGE FROM THE PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED HAGERMAN FD.  PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND AND LEARN ABOUT THE ISSUES AFFECTING THE VOLUNTEER FIRE SERVICE.  DINNER WILL BE SERVED AT 7:00PM WITH MEETING TO FOLLOW AT 8:00PM.

THIS IS ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR THE 2018.  THE SLATE OF OFFICERS NOMINATED IS THE EXISTING OFFICER SLATE.  IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE YOU MUST HAVE ATTENDED TWO MEETINGS (INCLUDING THE NOVEMBER MEETING).

THE OFFICERS OF THE ASSOCIATION WELCOME ALL CHIEFS, ASSISTANT CHIEFS, EX-CHIEFS AND OTHER FIRE ORGANIZATION OFFICERS TO ATTEND OUR MEETINGS.  WE NEED EVERYONE’S PARTICIPATION IF WE ARE TO SUCCEED IN IMPROVING THE SERVICE WE PROVIDE TO OUR COMMUNITIES.  WE ALSO NEED TO PRESENT A UNIFIED AND STRONG POSITION ON ISSUES AFFECTING THE FIRE SERVICE AT THE FEDERAL AND STATE LEVEL IN ORDER TO GET LEGISLATION ENACTED THAT PROVIDES THE SUPORT AND PROTECTION TO THE FIRE SERVICE AND ITS MEMBERS.

ANNUAL AGENDA:

ISSUES AFFECTING THE FIRE SERVICE IN SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK STATE AND NATIONALLY ARE DISCUSSED WITH HOW EACH DEPARTMENT CAN HELP GET THE RESOURCES THEY NEED TO PROTECT THEIR MEMBERS AND SERVE THEIR COMMUNITIES.

WE WILL BE CONTINUING OUR WORK ON COMPLETING OUR LEGISLATIVE FIRE SERVICE AGENDA AT BOTH THE COUNTY, STATE AND FEDERAL LEVELS  AND NEED REPRESENTATION FROM ALL COUNCILS AND DEPARTMENTS TO STRENGTHEN OUR EFFORTS WITH ALL OUR LEGISLATORS.

THE VARIOUS TRAINING RESOURCES AVAILABLE FROM THE SUFFOLK COUNTY FIRE ACADEMY, NYS FIRE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION, FASNY, NATIONAL FIRE ACADEMY AND VARIOUS OTHER ORGANIZATIONS ARE PRESENTED FOR BOTH CLASSROOM, FIELD AND ON-LINE COURSES.

COMMISSIONER WILLIAMS INDICATED THE COUNTY HAS RECEIVED SAFER GRANT FUNDING FOR 2017.  FIRE DEPARTMENT MEMBERS CAN FILE FOR THIS GRANT FOR ANY SUFFOLK COUNTY COLLEGE.  IMPORTANT!!!!!  IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE TO FILE FOR GRANT YOUR DEPARTMENT MUST HAVE FILED THEIR ANNUAL NATIONAL FIRE INFORMATION REPORT SYSTEM (NFIRS) TO NEW YORK STATE.  COMMISSIONER WILLIAMS INDICATES THERE ARE VARIOUS SUFFOLK COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENTS THAT HAVE NOT FILED THEIR REPORTS FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS.  CHIEFS SHOULD VERIFY THAT THEY HAVE FILED THEIR REPORTS WHETHER OR NOT THEY HAD ANY FIRES.

PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND ONE OR MORE MEETINGS IN THE COMING YEAR!!!!
